Sprinkled through the small Southern Arizona communities that surround Safford are a dozen Mexican restaurants, a family owned tortilla factory and a lady who grow chilies who have all joined together to make up the Salsa Trail®. Chances are that the person who greets you, the waitress who serves your food, and the cook who prepares the traditional Mexican recipes, have been on the job for 10, 15, 20 years or more. Incredible Native American Art – The Mills Collection contains Indian artifacts from what is known as the Salado Period (1250 A.D. to 1450 A.D.), and is an extensive display of the culture and lifestyle of the people who inhabited the Graham County region long ago. Artifacts ranging from pottery to arrowheads to jewelry, The Mills Collection can be viewed from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, located on the first floor of the Eastern Arizona College Student Services Building, 615 N. Graham County Historical Society and Museum – The Finest Rural Museum in Arizona, 15 Rooms filled with historical artifacts, books, documents, articles, map guides, historical books and more. This museum offers an impressive collection of archeological material linking the past with the present. Museum hours are 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 a.m. Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday, 3430 W. Main Street (Hwy 70), Thatcher, AZ.


Discovery Park Campus – Discovery Park is an entertainment retreat, emphasizing the science and culture of the Gila Valley, from mining and agriculture to space exploration. A full-motion simulator takes guests on a ride past Mt. Graham to tour the solar system, and the nature’s hideaway riparian habitat, just east of the campus. The Vatican Observatory loans several exhibits to the park, including an astrolabe made in 1608. An astrolabe is an ancient astronomical computer used for solving problems relating to time and the position of the Sun and the stars in the sky. SALSAFEST – SalsaFest is great, affordable family fun for all! The 2010 SalsaFest will include salsa making contests, a festival marketplace, salsa music and dancing and if you’re brave enough – jalapeño and salsa eating competitions! Kids can enjoy the Kids Corner, where they can smash piñatas, get a face painting and play in the bounce house. Come see the Balloon Salsa Glow on Friday evening, as hot air balloons line Main Street and light up the sky and then watch the balloons lift-off on Saturday morning during the 2nd Annual Balloon Festival!
