London, UK (PRWEB UK) 28 August 2014
Nice Bars Limited, the pubs and bars company set up by lawyer Jitesh Patel and former advertising executive Sheila Parker, is finalising a full refurbishment of the Ship Public House in Hart Street, EC3.
The Ship, a grade II listed site located between Tower Hill and Fenchurch Street, was acquired by Nice Bars in September 2013. Although listed, previous works to the site had covered up or obscured a number of original features. Nice Bars’ works include stripping back false ceilings and restoring original ironwork as well as installing oak floors and traditional brass fittings. The Victorian look of the pub will be further accentuated through the use of darker paint colours and leathers, script wallpapers and filament light fittings.
The refurbishment of the site is being undertaken in two phases, with work on the highly decorated façade to be completed early next year.
Tesh Patel comments, “We are both proud and excited to be custodians of the Ship at this time. Independent pubs, especially in London, are really great places to be right now, with increasing interest in real ales, craft beers and high quality British food served up in beautiful old buildings. We really hope people enjoy what the Ship has to offer.”
Abbie Downey, area manager for Nice Bars, comments, “Credit must also go to our loyal customers who have been so patient whilst we have waited for the necessary consents for this project. We hope they’ll be pleased with the results.”
Nice Bars also plans to expand the food and drink offer at the Ship. Alongside its roster of well-kept real ales from the likes of Caledonian Brewery and Adnams, the Ship will re-launch with a varied wine list comprising old world stalwarts from Bordeaux and Burgundy and new world stars from the likes of Cloudy Bay. The list has been put together with a number of specialist suppliers including Boisdales and Matthew Clark and will be regularly-changing.
Sheila Parker comments, “We want to give our customers the option of enjoying some great wines alongside our beers. The wine list also complements our exciting new food menu – we’re hoping just as many people will pop in for a steak sandwich and a glass of pinot noir at lunch as people who might want a pie and a pint of our Ship’s Ale”.
The Ship will have both a bar menu, comprising small plates and substantial sandwiches, as well as a dining menu that can be enjoyed in the first floor dining room. Both menus will be a celebration of classic British pub food, together with some more contemporary dishes. Plates include steak baguette with caramelised onions & Dijon mustard, Welsh Rarebit with Worcestershire sauce and Roasted Sea Bass Fillet on a British Greens Risotto. The pub has also partnered with Timmy’s Pies (http://www.timmyspies.com) to bring its customers a daily-changing selection of award-winning handmade British pies and sausage rolls.
On the menu, Lewis Bullen, general manager of the Ship, comments, “It’s always worth paying for the best ingredients. Our pork is from highly regarded Dingley Dell farm in East Anglia and our beef is sourced from quality assured farms in Lancashire & Yorkshire. This really comes through in our food.”
Head chef Ronney Ferreira adds, “Alongside classics, we’ll be using quality British ingredients in some more adventurous dishes for our customers to try. I am particularly proud of our braised pigs cheeks with caramelised leeks and mustard cream. The meat is braised for over 2 ½ hours resulting in a meltingly tender texture, its richness perfectly balanced with the sweet, caramelised leeks.”
Bullen concludes, “In fact, that is one thing I am very pleased to say about the menu – there is something for everyone, whatever your tastes, including a decent selection of vegetarian dishes too.”
The Ship re-opens on Monday 8th September 2014 with a soft-opening discount of 50% off all food until Wednesday 17th September.
